Ollie was rescued on 9th October 2016

A male common (harbour) seal pup (phoca vitulina), was found in North Ledaig by a Caravan site owner who called the Scottish SEA LIFE Sanctuary to say there was a pup on the beach and it was "all floppy".
The Animal Care Team advised her not to approach the seal pup and to keep other people away and headed straight round to check on him.
On arrival the pup was noticeably skinny and was having seizures.
The vet was called who administered a glucose injection and within half an hour the pup was bright and alert again!

This common seal pup has been named Ollie.
He is approximately 6-8 weeks old and believe he went for a few days without food, exhausted himself and hauled out on the beach.
Seizures are a sign that the brain is shutting down due to a drop in blood glucose.
If the Caravan site owner hadn´t found him he probably wouldn´t have survived a couple of hours.

Update: 7th November 2016 - Ollie was released back into the wild on 2nd November 2016 on the beach where he had been found as there is a local seal colony nearby.
Ollie´s progress at the Sanctuary was excellent. When he came into the seal hospital Ollie weighed 14 kilos and released weight was over 25 kilos. He was very aggressive (and kept escaping from his pen) which is exactly what the Animal Care Team wanted as this ensured his contact with humans was minimal to give him the best chance of surviving in the wild.
